The important thing about architects is that they design everybody's house.
|
|
They make a big picture of someone's house, and then a
builder builds it. |
|
The architect can't just design any old house. |
|
The person that hires the architect tells them what they want their house to
look like |
|
But the important thing about architects is they design
everybody's house

Introduction |
|
Providence!! The most amazing place!
Schools, Libraries, parks, and -most importantly- beautiful Architecture! My
dad is an Architect. That's why my report is on Architecture. In this
report, I'm going to talk about the houses and mansions in Providence, the
Providence skyline and the State House. I bought a book called "PPS/AlAri
Guide to Providence Architecture. There's a lot of information in this book
and I learned a lot of stuff. I hope you like it. |

First, I'm going to talk
about the State House. The State House is on Smith Street. Its address is 90
Smith Street, Providence, Rhode Island. People call it, "The Crown Jewel of
Providence," because of its magnificent white marble dome. That dome is the
4th largest dome in the world. Like the dome, the whole State House is made
out of white marble. |
|
Inside it's very big and
there's so much space. The hallways on all the floors are lined with a
portrait collection of Governors and Legislators. One of the portraits is
George Washington, painted by Gilbert Stewart. It was probably the orginal
version since it was done in 1800. |
|
McKim, Mead and White
are the architects who designed the State House. There are all kinds of
Architectural Styles. This particular style is called Neoclassical. |
|
I think the State House
is very beautiful because of the big dome and the statue of the Independent
Man on top. |
